Finding Each Other Again

MADE IN VENTURA HARBOR

Our story didn’t begin with a plan — it began with an interruption.

At the time, I was playing at the Boatyard Pub twice a month with my band, sharing original music and doing what I loved. Somewhere in the background of those nights was Marco — often talking loudly enough that, in my mind, he was competing with every song I was trying to sing. We had already met several times, but somehow he never seemed to remember my name, which only made me more annoyed.

Then one night after a show, I stayed behind to eat dinner and sober up after the pub had closed. Marco happened to come by during a midnight walk and came in anyway. I remember seeing him and thinking, not him again.

But that night, something shifted.

We talked — really talked — and for the first time, I saw a different side of him. Before the night ended, he asked me to meet him there again the next day so we could hang out. It was random, a little strange, and not especially logical. He didn’t ask for my number. He just asked me to come back.

And I did.

One Date, Then Distance

We ended up going on one date before he left for his next fishing job, and it was the best first date of my life. It stayed with me in a way I couldn’t fully explain. I barely knew him. We had only gone out once. So why did I feel so drawn to him? Why did something in me feel like I already knew him?

Why did I have this fleeting vision of all the faces I would one day see him make over time, as if some part of me already sensed there would be a time for us?

Then he was gone.

I wouldn’t see him again until the next fishing season in Ventura. We didn’t talk at all for months, but somehow he stayed with me. In that quiet space between not knowing and not forgetting, I even wrote a song about him.

Ships Missing Each Other

By August, I was back at the Boatyard with my band, and the fishermen had started trickling in again. For a couple of weeks, I kept asking around to see if anyone had seen him, but no one had. Later, I found out he had been doing the same thing, asking about me too. We were like two ships missing each other, circling the same harbor and just barely passing by.

Then one day, while I was setting up, I heard his voice:

“Is that my girl?”

And from that moment on, we were no longer missing each other.

From the Boatyard to Family

What started as an unexpected meeting became a love story neither of us saw coming. He was a fisherman who frequented the bar. I was a singer performing there. We didn’t have a carefully mapped-out future in mind — we simply chose to spend time together because, why not?

Somehow, that simple choice became a life, a love, and a family.

Now we share that story with our son — our sweet boatyard baby — who reminds us that some of life’s greatest blessings are born from the most unexpected beginnings.

Why we created this space

This website is a celebration of our story: of chance encounters, deep love, family memories, meaningful traditions, and the beautiful life that can grow when two people find each other in the most unlikely of places.

We created this space to hold the moments we want to remember, the milestones we want to celebrate, and the story we are still writing together every day.
